What makes a meteorite different from an asteroid. Is it the size, composition, or the matter it is made of?

A meteorite is a fragment of natural space material that has impacted Earth and survived (at least to some extent). An asteroid is an object in space that orbits the sun but is not large enough to be called a planet.
