Is it possible to change the properties - frequency, wavelength, energy - of a single photon? For example, can a gamma-ray be transformed into a light-ray?

    Question #123086. Asked by houston1127. (Aug 16 11 9:00 PM)

Inelastic interactions of photons with matter usually cause them to lose energy, hence experience a decrease in frequency and an increase in wavelength. There is a lot of difference between a gamma ray and a visible light ray, so a single interaction is unlikely to produce that much change in the photon's properties. (An increase in energy of the photon, called reverse Compton effect, is also sometimes observed.)

Directed by Greg Hoblit, "Frequency" premiered in 2000, a good year for a millennium-type film. It's an exceptionally good "time-travel-ish" crime thriller with a heavy accent on the father-son relationship.
