In the countries of the former Soviet Union did agricultural production increase when the collective system was abolished?

Question #123168. Asked by unclerick. (Aug 20 11 8:02 PM)

Not right away- the transition (beginning in 1990) led to a drop in production, but productivity is becoming much higher on private farms- "The share of the individual sector in gross agricultural output increased from 26% in 1990 to 59% in 2005. Producing 59% of agricultural output on 20% of land, individual farms achieve a much higher productivity of land than corporate farms." -from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agriculture_in_Russia

One effect of decollectivisation has been the abandonment of much arable land- "by 2005 more than 48 million hectares of agricultural land became abandoned in European Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union." -from http://www.bmelv-forschung.de/fileadmin/dam_uploads/aktuelle_Themen/Prishchepov_Int_forest_year_revised_final.pdf.

Some of the former Soviet republics have not moved far in decollectivisation- e.g. Kyrgyzstan: http://www.mongabay.com/reference/country_studies/kyrgyzstan/ECONOMY.html and Uzbekistan: http://wur.academia.edu/GertJanVeldwisch/Papers/682138/Dehkans_Diversification_and_Dependencies_Rural_Transformation_in_Post-Soviet_Uzbekistan.
