    When was the last time, before August 23, 2011, that an earthquake 5.8 or greater hit the US east coast?

    		Just to add there is a faultline along the east coast as well, which produces regular earthquake activity, just not as strong as the west. There was a comparable one to theirs in Charleston in 1886 estimated between 6.6 and 7.3 so eastern earthquakes are definitely not unusual.
