In 1895 Gillette was a salesman for the man who had invented the cork-lined bottle caps. His advice to Gillette was 'Invent something people use and throw away.' That got Gillette to thinking and after he met Willian Nickerson, together they came up with a razor with a flexible, disposable, double-edged blade. The patent was issued in 1901.
