    		The Louisiana Purchase increased the size of the United States by 828,800 square miles while the state of Alaska covers 570,380 square miles.

    		As well as being larger in area the Louisiana Purchase made much more expansion possible. It opened the access to all the western states. Arguably, the Alaska purchase may not have happened without the Louisiana purchase occurring beforehand. Check out the map on the link.
