In the UK, do children celebrate Halloween by wearing costumes and going door to door trick-a-treating for sweets?

'Trick or treat' as that phrase in the UK until the 1980s, although the celebration of Halloween does date back until the Middle Ages. The 'trick' element is the part which causes most trouble, with cases of eggs and flour being thrown at houses where the householder has not participated.
