    Why are former U.S. presidents still addressed as Mr. President?

    They are called that out of respect but the link above states that it is formally incorrect to address the former president as "Mr. President". This link says they are to be announced as "Honorable" so and so and when speaking directly to a former president, one should simple say Mr. before their name.
