What is the difference between a 'Garden City' and a 'New Town'?

From what I can find, it appears that a 'New Town' will always be perceived as a self sufficient community (as in, not relying on a close by city to provide its economical growth and so forth. A 'Garden City' is more focused on providing an almost oasis away from the city atmosphere, with the unwritten suggestion that many factors of its sufficiency depend upon a parent city (such as economic etc). I hope these definitions can help to define more.
