From what I've been able to find out is the following. In American or Canadian football, when a long pass is thrown to a receiver it is called a bomb. The term 'throwing bombs' is used in boxing. Jun 16 01, 7:07 AM

It is american football. you dont throw bombs in stratego you set them. A bomb is a really long pass. not sure the difference between a bomb and a hail mary though. Jun 16 01, 10:10 PM

A 'bomb', or long pass, is thrown deep down field to a specific receiver. With a 'Hail Mary' pass, several receivers are sent into the endzone, the ball is thrown in that direction, and the quarterback just prays that one of his team catches it. Jun 18 01, 2:58 AM
