The Dybbuk comes from Jewish Mysticism, a ghost or spirit that takes possession usually of a living human being. Many tales about it can be found in Jewish folklore, one of the more famous incarnations is S. Ansky's play "The Dybbuk" (written in 1914), which has also been made into a Yiddish movie.

Specifically, the Hebrew word means "possission" or "infection" - of a human's body by a mysterious force, spirit or parasite.
