Table salt is mostly sodium chloride, but it usually has anti-caking agents added.

To all intents and purposes, yes.

There are very slight variations depending on where the salt is mined/farmed.

Don't forget that most table salt is also "iodised" (a minute amount of iodine added)- for very good health reasons! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iodised_salt

I have a container which originally held 500 grams of what the label claims to be "finest table salt" - pretty much pure sodium chloride. Yet, out of every 100 grams in the container, only 39 grams are sodium. Since a molecule of table salt is made up of an equal number of sodium and chlorine atoms, this leads me to believe that chlorine is a much heavier element than sodium. Is that really true?

How would you classify each of the following, as a pure substance or a mixture: soapy water, hydrogen gas, and sodium chloride?
