Where did the idiom "ballpark figure" come from as having the meaning a rough estimate? Especially, when actual baseball statistics are meticulously and accurately kept for every game and play?

    Question #125762. Asked by Trivia87. (Apr 20 12 11:23 AM)

It came about not through statistics, but from the element of chance as far as where a 'hit' ball might land.
