Gopher wood or gopherwood is found in Genesis 6:14, where Noah is told to build the ark from it. Suggestions for its meaning include cypress, pine, cedar, fir, ebony, wicker, juniper, acacia, boxwood, slimed bulrushes and resinous wood, and even American trees such as Cladrastis kentukea (American yellowwood).

A few more suggestions: squared timber, smoothed (possibly planed) wood, cedar-beams, reed, pitched wood, a lamination process (to strengthen the Ark), or a now-lost type of tree.
