I think the expected answer is: "Sun Yat-sen (12 November 1866 - 12 March 1925)[1] was a Chinese revolutionary and first president and founding father of the Republic of China ("Nationalist China"). As the foremost pioneer of Republic of China, Sun is referred to as the "Father of the Nation" in the Republic of China (ROC), and the "forerunner of democratic revolution" in the People's Republic of China." -from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Yat-sen

I would go for Sun Yat Sen - he's about the only thing that the two Chinas agree on. While Huang Xing was the actual leader of the military uprising that toppled the Imperial rule, Sun was the political figure that took centre stage and co-ordinated the transition to the new Republic. Like Lenin, he didn't live long enough to see his visions come to full fruition, and like Tito, was succeeded by division and breakdown. Incidentally, he was the originator of what in the West is called the Mao suit - again, regarded by both sides as correct attire for fifty years after Sun's death. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mao_suit
