He had many, the following is a chronological list: 1942 Commissioned a Secend Lieutenant bomber pilot, also investigated plane crashes during the war. After the war he became a commercial co-pilot for Pan Am. In 1947 after surviving a crash in the Syrian Desert, he quit, moved to California and decided to become a writer. While waiting for his writing career to take off, he held the following jobs. Salesman for 3-D cameras, joined the LAPD and was assigned to the LAPD newspaper. He was press release and speech writier for Police Chief Bill Parker and a lecturer at LA State College. While he was working for the LAPD he became a self-taught script writer. His first sale of a script was for the TV show 'Mr. Distict Attorney', he then became technical adviser for the same show. In 1954 he quit the LAPD to beome a full time free-lance writer, eventually a creator and writer for new TV pilots, under contract with Screen Gems. In 1963 he first got the idea for Star Trek. The rest as we say, is history! I found this information at www.roddenberry.com
