I'm trying to verify the following story. During the filming of a movie on the USS Enterprise (CV-6), an actor (maybe Robert Mitchum) was told by Admiral "Bull" Halsey to "Get off my boat." The actor then gave a "middle finger salute" and jumped off the aircraft carrier. Anyone know if this is true?

The actor was probably Erroll Flynn, according to this site. However, it doesn't confirm either the "salute" or the jump-off.
Mention of "Dive Bomber" reminds me that the CV-6 scenes were filmed in the spring of 1941, and involved a continuing feud between Bull Halsey and Erroll Flynn. Halsey resented the time devoted to filming because it interfered with training. However, Enterprise sailors agreed that Fred MacMurray was "a regular guy" and even posted an "historical marker" in a head [lavatory] that he patronized.

Thanks. I asked the old WWII vet if it was Errol Flynn and he thought it was Mitchum. He said the movie was filmed during the war.
