Regarding the question about John Tyler being the only U.S. President whose death was not officially mourned, I also have heard that some people believe he died under mysterious circumstances, perhaps by poisoning, that he was given a drink on a hot day that contained something lethal. Could there be any connection between that and his death not being mourned?

While there were rumors about his death, it does not seem to have been responsible for his death not being mourned. That seems to be solely related to his 'act of treason' with the secession of the southern states.
His health was, however, an ongoing problem, and his death could have been attributed to numerous causes.
