Is there any way to trace a short named programme running on the task manager list such as setup.exe to the actual programme on Windows Explorer?

According to advice available at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-files/task-manager-shows-an-unexpected-process-running/1e1945a8-5e7a-e011-9b4b-68b599b31bf5?msgId=e9b98c42-667a-e011-9b4b-68b599b31bf5, yes. The most helpful advice (in my opinion) from it on your question is: "Setup.exe could be the installation file for any software program. Use task mgr to end the process then do a search for the file. Make sure you enable Advanced search features. Right click on the file and choose properties. Click on the Version tab. Click on Company in the left pane. This should tell you the origination of the file.

Alternatively, you could use Files Search Utility for Windows.

Actually the most helpful advice I'd meant to quote from http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-files/task-manager-shows-an-unexpected-process-running/1e1945a8-5e7a-e011-9b4b-68b599b31bf5?msgId=e9b98c42-667a-e011-9b4b-68b599b31bf5 was: "Task Manager won't help you determine what this is. Download, install, and run Process Explorer http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653. The path to "setup.exe" will be shown when you hover the mouse over it, or you can right click on it for more details. Once you find out where setup.exe is located, you should be able to determine what it is setting up by inspecting the other files in the directory."

Lovely job, I can now report back, the programme works perfectly, and after waiting a few days setup.exe just popped up (it almost stops the computer so I can tell) and it was Chrome updater. It's going to be a good reserve if anything else odd pops up and can see if it needs to be removed or allowed to carry on.
