    What is more important in a response to one of these questions, the answer or a reference? Does anyone else find it irritating when the reply only gives a reference, leaving you asking "Well, what's the answer, then?",

    		I'd say the answer! But according to the posting rules, they are both critical. See link below. I guess the relative importance is a matter of opinion, but in my humble one you need the answer as an absolute minimum. The reference is just evidence that you know what you're talking about (and gives people a source to find out more).

    		If a reference is available, I like seeing it posted. But I don't like having to completely redirect my browser to find it (which happens when there's only a reference). Thanks.

    I really love spending a few minutes scanning the latest questions, and answers, here. I appreciate that the rules ask for a reference to accompany the answer, but should they not also say that any reply should actually give an answer, and not just a reference? I find it a bit peeving to have a reply consisting only of something like - "Here's the reference guys!"

    A contestant on a TV show had to answer 26 questions. For each correct answer he received 8 points, while a wrong answer penalized him 5 points. How many answers did the man answer correctly, bearing in mind that he eventually had 0 points?

    Here's another one of those questions that do not seem to have a definitive answer. I wanted to set this one for my pub quiz, but I'd like to be reasonably confident that the answer is correct! What are the 5 largest US cities by population?
