Allan Hume was the founding father of the INC. He was not the first chairman/president. "Allan Octavian Hume, C.B.; father of the Indian National Congress, 1829 to 1912" by Sir William Wedderburn (published in 1913) from pages 57 and 58: The first Conference of the Indian National Union was scheduled for Poona from 25th to 30th December 1885. It was renamed the Indian National Congress before it started. It was transferred to Bombay because of cholera outbreak at Poona and began on 27th December. The first president of the INC was from Calcutta, Mr W.C.
