Perhaps you may be thinking of Malaysia? In 2010, the Maylay government attempted to switch to silver and gold. I am afraid that I do not know whether that was successful or not. Good luck with your question.

No country currently uses the gold standard or silver standard. Switzerland in 1999 appears to be the last country to give up the gold standard. China and Hong Kong in 1935 were the last to use the silver standard.

The US went off the gold standard in 1971. The treasury still maintains reserves of gold in New York and Fort Knox, but US dollars are not directly convertable to gold from the treasury.
