    To what does the Arc in the name Joan of Arc(Jeanne d'Arc) refer? D'Arc was her family name - does it refer to a place or an arch (French translation of Arc) or something else?

    There's probably not a definitive answer, but the only explanation I've found is that her father or his ancestors may have come from Arc-en-Barrois.
