    The same happens for gasoline - sunlight will degrade the octane rating of gasoline.

    Brown coloring filters light that prevents beer from skunking.

    Green bottles were used when there was a shortage of brown, and are generally used by some brands as a status symbol or for its color.

    (Clear bottles are also sometimes used, to show off the color of the beer.)
