It was Rembrandt's marriage to SASKIA van Ulyenburgh, a burgomaster's daughter, which helped establish his career. She was the cousin of a successful art dealer who brought him into contact with wealthy patrons who commissioned portraits from the young painter. Saskia died in 1642 after the birth of their only surviving child, Titus.
