    Looks as if there is more than one opinion on this with estimates ranging from 'more than 20 years'

    Prior to the October 1929 crash the Dow Jones Industrial index had peaked at 381.17 on 3rd September 1929. It didn't bottom out for another 3 years when it closed at 41.22 on 8th July 1932. It regained it previous high 25 and a bit years later in November 1954:
    379.47 on 22nd November 1954
    382.74 on 23rd November 1954
