    When did the last asteroid big enough to wipe out one or more species strike Earth?

    The one I know of is the one that created the Chicxulub crater http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicxulub_crater 65 million years ago in the Yucatan peninsula. This is the asteroid believed to caused (at least in part) the extinction of the dinosaurs.
