How much did it cost Oprah, when she gave away cars to the studio audience and is this something she's done since?

The now-defunct Pontiac division of General Motors picked up the tab for Oprah's famous car giveaway in 2004. It cost them around $7 million US to do the promotion with their G6 sedan. It cost the people who kept the cars around $7,000 US in taxes.

And Oprah has given away cars on at least one other occasion. She gave away 2012 Volkswagen Beetles in 2010, and covered virtually all the taxes.

There is a legend that says that Einstein once did not buy ice cream that cost 25 cents because his wife gave him 2 dimes and a nickel rather than the usual quarter she gave him. Apparently, this story is told to show what kind of mind Einstein had. I cannot find anything on the Internet about this. Is there any truth to this?
