    What does "being in 50 shades of grey" mean?

    It is a way to describe the complexity of a subject. Where some people only may see two sides to a subject or situation, there may be many more ways to look at it instead of just "black or white". Hence, something like a trial or action by someone could have 50 shades of grey when you examine it. There could be many ways to view it.
