    Why was a pineapple named that? It is neither pine-like nor apple-like.

    Christopher Columbus named it "piƱa de Indes" Pine of the Indians because it looked like a pine cone.

    During the second voyage of Columbus,the Spanish invaders called the pineapple "Pina de Indias" because of a somewhat far-fetched resemblance to the pine cone, and it was the English who named it "pineapple".
