Does the Utah Mormon Church officially recognize separate denominations of its faith?

Question #128298. Asked by BaronBatty. (Dec 10 12 3:29 AM)

No, the mainstream Mormon Church does not "officially" recognize sects claiming the LDS ( Latter Day Saints) name. In fact, those who are members of offshoot sects that practice polygamy are excommunicated from the 13.5+ million member Mormon Church which is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.
