Which name has been around longer, Miriam or Mary?

Question #128519. Asked by serpa. (Dec 20 12 2:23 PM)

As the name Miriam is in Exodus, the second book of the Old Testament, I think that it has been around longer. Mary is used in the New Testament.

Mary is the English form originally from the Greek names Mariam and Maria, which were derived from the Hebrew Miriam.
