    		I presume you mean Alexander the Great, but arguments could also be made for Genghis Khan, Trajan, Napoleon, etc.

    		I believe it is generally considerd Ghengis Khan.

    		The Mongol empire ruled by Genghis Khan and his descendants was the largest LAND empire in history, but mention should also be made of The British Empire, which controlled one-fifth of the earth during the 1800s. However, I am NOT suggesting that Queen Victoria be included in anyone's list of great military leaders :)
