What was Arthur Treacher's job (other than Fish n Chips)?

Question #128720. Asked by terraorca. (Jan 01 13 9:29 PM)

He was an actor. He played the butler, Jeeves, in a series of movies based on the books. Lol, I never heard of the fish and chips places. Are they still in existance?

I remember these restaurants when I was a kid

    From site:
The chain was named after Arthur Treacher (1894-1975), an English character actor who was known as "the perfect butler" for his performances as Jeeves, as a butler in several Shirley Temple films, and the role of Constable Jones in Disney's Mary Poppins. (He was perhaps best known in later years as Merv Griffin's TV talk show announcer/sidekick in the mid-1960s.) "He (Treacher) served as a spokesman for the restaurant chain in its early years, underscoring the British character of its food."[1] It is unclear if Treacher had a financial interest in the company; in interviews he refused to say whether he did or not.

Like just about every other actor of his time, Treacher also did some radio work. He played butlers on programs starring Jimmy Durante and Jack Carson. He also had a part in a short-lived sitcom called The Smiths of Hollywood.
