    Exactly how many members of congress are there in the U.S.?

    There are 535 voting members, 100 Senators and 435 Representatives. There are also 6 non voting members, 1 resident Commissioner and 5 Delegates

    While many people think that 535 is the number of electoral college votes, there are actually 538. Each state gets the same number of electoral college votes as they have members of congress. Additionally, the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.) gets three electoral college votes, despite having no members of Congress.

    There can actually be 536 if the Vice President votes in the event of a tie in the Senate.
