When a cricketer wins the man of the match award, he (or she) received a cheque from the sponsor. Do they keep it for themselves, or does it go into a shared kitty?

This is very much a country by country proposition. The New Zealand cricket team had a very strong policy of sharing the nan of the match awards with all players in the team. In 1985 when NZ was touring Australia, NZs Richard Hadlee won man of the match taking 9/51 in the first innings ( he caught the remaing wicket) and 15/123 for the match. In this instance he kept the award for himself. In a one day series against Australia, he won a sorts car as the cricketer of the series. To keep the car he had to compensate his team mates. Both these incidents caused dissent ion in the team and the Australian Press reported both these cases.
