Was any President's Inaugural Address ever greeted negatively?

Question #129103. Asked by Windswept. (Jan 21 13 3:08 PM)

I would have to say Lincoln's first inaugural address in March 1861. He faced an assassination attempt in Baltimore, so he has to change his travel plans to get to Washington which included cutting telegraph lines out of Philadelphia to cover his departure.

Despite his inaugural address in which he said of the South, "We are not enemies, but friends," the South greeted it as an attack. It is fascinating to read newspaper accounts of his speech for the time. One example is "The Petersburg Express says, the Inauguration will add immensely to public dissatisfaction North and South."
