    Desmond Howard of the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXI, played on January 26, 1997.

    The three previous returns for TD were by players on the losing team (Miami in XVII, Cincinnati in XXIII, and San Diego in XXIX).

    This run won Howard the Super Bowl MVP award. Howard was also a Heisman Trophy winner. He played for the University of Michigan.
