    		Actually, no, he didn't. The Captain and Tennille and David Cassidy both recorded this prior to Manilow's release. It was written by Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys.

    		It was written Bruce Johnston, an American singer, songwriter and record producer. He is best known as a member of The Beach Boys.

    		Manilow's version has been the most successful to date, reaching number 1 in the Billboard chart in 1975 as well as earning a Grammy for Song of the Year.
