Is there one group whose version of Hang On Sloopy is recognized as the official state song of Ohio?

It just may be the 1965 version by the McCoys that was a smash hit. The Vibrations covered it first, but it was the McCoys' cover that made it a hit. The song got its name from soul singer Dorothy "Sloopy" Sloop from Steubenville, Ohio.

Also to be noted is that it's 16 year-old Rick Derringer's vocals and guitar on the McCoys' version. Rick would later become famous as a solo act and with Edgar Winter's White Trash groups. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hang_On_Sloopy
