The Isle of Man, probably derived the name it uses now from the Saxon word mang (among), being positioned at an almost equal distance between the kingdoms of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.

It is possibly related to the Celtic sea deity known as ManannĂ¡n to the Irish and Manawyddan to the Welsh. Then again, it may simply refer to the island rising out of the sea like a mountain.
