In which island group is Deer Sound?

Question #13558. Asked by deewil. (Aug 25 01 11:05 AM)

    crackers

The Deer Group is an island archpelego that starts at the east end of Barkley Sound and continues southwest to Bamfield, which is also the end of the West Coast Trail, the south section of Pacific Rim National Park. I take it that is in Canada.

Yes, it is in Canada, on the west coat of Vancouver Island, which is part of
BC. Not all that far from were I grew up! Mind you, I grew up on the mainland,
but the crossing to the island is not far. I found the same information, but
because the Sound is not called Deer and the Islands are, I thought it was
wrong. I kept looking, but that was all I could find.

Can anyone explain how the periodic table works? How is it possible that the vertical groups correspond almost exactly to the increasing atomic mass of the elements? For instance, the alkali metals (group 1), alkaline earth metals (group 2) and noble gases (group 8) all have very different properties, yet somehow, if they were all arranged in order by their atomic masses, you would find that they could be arranged in a clear pattern of Group 1, Group 2, Group 8, Group 1, Group 2, Group 8, and so on. Is it just coincidence, or is there a scientific explanation for this?
