Why do we sometimes refer to ten dollar bills as a 'sawbuck'?

A 'sawbuck' is a type of sawhorse made with two 'X' shaped ends, connected by a crosspiece. Seen from the end the sawhorse looks like the letter 'X'. 'X' is the Roman numeral for 10. Hence it is only a short jump to refering to a 10 dollar bill as a 'sawbuck.'
