    		Dr. Roger Gilbert Bannister was the first at the Iffley Road Track, Oxford on 6th May 1954 in a time of 3 mins 59.4 sec beating Gunner Haag's time set in 1945 at 4 min 1.4 secs (ref Oxford companion to sports and games)
