    Why do some cultures consider the left hand as 'evil' or 'dirty' (for example, one must use the right hand only for eating, shaking hands with another person, or even making the sign of the cross)?

    		Toilet paper is a fairly recent invention (Joseph Gayetty 1857)and prior to that people used their left hand. In some societies this method of cleaing up is still used.

    		This is certainly the reason why the left hand is considered bad in Arabic countries. But I have not seen any evidence that the left hand was used for cleaning oneself in the Western World before the invention of toilet paper.

    I think the West's bias against left-handedness is just one more example of the majority picking on the minority just because they are different.
