What is the point of a mousepad, the ball mouse will still work without a pad, does it really matter?

    Question #14296. Asked by j. (Oct 22 01 8:45 PM)

    Gnomon

    The mousepad serves three purposes:

    1. It provides greater friction by being slightly soft so that the mouse ball sinks into it and makes greater contact. This prevents the mouse ball from slipping if you move the mouse quickly.

    2. It defines an area on your desk which should be kept free from clutter.

    3. It serves as a handy place to put a nice picture.

In which country was the ball point invented?

Does anyone know please how the points work this year in the County Cricket Championship. There seems to be a deduction of points for something. I see Surrey have scored 39.75 from two matches, ie have had a quarter of a point taken away. is this for slow over rate perhaps. How does it work. Any thoughts appreciated?
