    When did bar codes first start being used and what was the first product to use one?

    First used in 1966. First product to use one was Wrigley's gum.

    Senior Moments

    The first bar code was introduced at Marsh Supermarket in Troy Ohio. The first item scanned at the checkout was Wrigley's chewing gum at 8:01am on 26th June 1974.

    To elaborate on my earlier question #11842, what I'd like to know is why all the area codes in the UK start with zero?

    In the UK, the fire service use codes, called stop or status codes, on the radio to stop the public from knowing what they're talking about. Does anyone know the meanings as it's not published anywhere online like the police are?

    How were international telephone dialing codes assigned and how come the US and Canada, two huge countries, share one code (1) when much smaller countries with a lot in common, such as the UK and Ireland, or Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, have different codes?
