    The Guardian Unlimited website says that Vikram Seth's 'A Suitable Boy' is the longest novel in English for 245 years.

    Found 'A Suitable Boy' and also another with a claim. British author Samuel Richardson went all out when he wrote Clarissa in the mid-18th century. At more than one million words, it's the longest novel in English literature

    I also have found the same as Tabby Tom but as Senior Moments says, there are other authors (not Indian) with a claim. I found a website www.austinchronicle.com/issues/vol18/issue18/books.texas50.html with the following:- Greene lists a number of forgotten novels by the likes of Philip Atlee, Al Dewlin, and Madison Cooper, the Proust of Waco, whose massive Sironia, Texas is usually designated as the longest novel in English.
