Which film actor's original surname (not hyphenated) contained 17 letters?

Question #14949. Asked by Carl. (Dec 13 01 6:36 AM)

    Tabby Tom

    Tabby Tom says:

It could be Walter Matthau, though there seems to be some doubt about his real name.

Some websites give MATUSCHANSKAVASKY or other forms with 17 letters. Others have different spellings. Bill Bryson's 'Made in America' spells it MATTASCHANSKAYASKY (18 letters).

One or two sites, e.g. www.planetproctor.com/2000/pp00-17.html say that this name was an invention in any case and that his real name was Matthow.

All very confusing, but Matthau may be the answer.
