The Oxford dictionary defines gentile, not of the Jewish race. According to Dictonary.com gentile is also a Christian or in the Mormon Church non Mormon or an Archaic meaning pagan or heathen.

I had always thought a Gentile was anyone who wasn't Jewish. Apparently that is not the case with all Jews. The following is what I found on the internet. I'm not saying it's right and I'm not saying it's wrong. I am just passing along the information. Hope it helps! Jew, Gentile, Christian The Word of God divides the human race into three separate and distinct groups of individuals, forming three creations. There are the Jews, the Gentiles, and the {Christians;} and these three creations, brought into existence at different times. See: http://gracenet.com/lamp/TSOS6.html Goy Lit. nation. A non-Jew, that is, a member of one of the other nations. There is nothing inherently insulting about the {term;} the word 'goy' is used in the Torah to describe Israel. See Jewish Attitudes Toward Non-Jews. Because Jews have had so many bad experiences with anti-Semitic non-Jews over the centuries, the term 'goy' has taken on some negative connotations, but in general, the term is no more insulting than the word 'gentile.' The following is a very large and comprehensive site about Judaism and should be able to answer any questions you have. http://www.jewfaq.org/index.htm This is another very comprehensive site. http://www.hebroots.org/judaism/judaism.html gen%B7tile (jntl) n. often Gentile 1.One who is not of the Jewish faith or is of a non-Jewish nation. 2.A Christian. 3.Archaic. A pagan or heathen. 4.Mormon Church. A non-Mormon. See: http://www.dictionary.com You could of course ask your local Rabbi, but depending if they are an Orthodox, Messianic, Hasidic or reformed, they might have 4 different answers.

Probably the answer to this question is 'The Samaritans'. These are a group of people who shared the beliefs of the Hebrews but separated from them in about 500 BC. They continued to live in Palestine when the Jews left. It is possible that for them Gentiles means anybody that is not a Samaritan.
